On October 10, the reporter learned from Shanghai Customs that Shanghai Yangshan Port welcomed the first batch of South African imported avocados in China. After passing the inspection of Yangshan Customs, a total of 22 tons of avocados have been successfully picked up from the port.

In August this year, the General Administration of Customs announced a list of South African fresh avocado companies that met the requirements. South Africa became the third African country after Kenya and Tanzania to obtain access to China's fresh avocados.

"Avocados are very popular among domestic consumers. In recent years, our company's avocado sales have achieved an annual compound growth rate of nearly 30%." Wang Na, marketing director of Dole (Shanghai) Fruit and Vegetable Trading Co., Ltd., said: "In the past, the avocados we imported mainly came from production areas such as Mexico, Peru, New Zealand, Chile, and the Philippines. Importing avocados from South Africa can fill the supply gaps from different production areas and help us ensure a year-round supply of avocados." It is understood that this batch of South African avocados will also be exhibited at the 7th China International Import Expo to be held in November this year.
