In September: China imported 220,000 tons of beef, 21,000 tons of mutton, 100,000 tons of pork, and 28,000 tons of poultry!

In September, China imported 540,000 tons of meat (including minced meat), a year-on-year decrease of 9.1%, with a total amount of 13.1 billion yuan; Accumulated imports from January to September amounted to 4.94 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 13.4%; The amount is 1.22 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 18.7%

(I) Total import volume

According to data from the General Administration of Customs, in September 2024, China imported 540,000 tons of meat (including minced meat) worth 13101.24 million yuan, a decrease of 9.1% compared to the same period last year.

The total import volume of meat in China from January to September was 4.94 million tons, with a total amount of 122080.78 million yuan, a cumulative decrease of 13.4% in quantity and 18.7% in amount compared to the same period last year.

The total import volume in September decreased by 30,000 tons compared to the previous month, mainly due to a significant decline in the import volume of poultry meat, which is closely related to the export embargo imposed by Brazil due to the outbreak of Newcastle disease, resulting in a sharp decline in the import volume of Brazilian chicken meat during September.

(II) Performance of each category

Pork imports rebounded in September, exceeding 100,000 tons for the first time this year. Although the trend of monthly import volume decline since the beginning of the year has not been reversed, it has initially shown a momentum of recovery.

The monthly import volume of beef has not changed much, and the cumulative import volume from January to September has increased year-on-year. Beef has continued its high-level operation trend of more than 200,000 tons per month for 16 consecutive months since June last year.

Mutton has generally shown a downward trend both year-on-year and month-on-month. Mutton imports continued to shrink in September, with the average monthly import volume being only half of the highest at the beginning of the year.

Beef: 220,000 tons were imported in September, with a value of 7.33 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 11.0%; the cumulative import volume from January to September reached 2.1 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.4%, and a value of 71.35 billion yuan

Mutton: 21,000 tons were imported in September, with a value of 460 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 23.0%; the cumulative import volume from January to September reached 276,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 16.1%, and a value of 6.11 billion yuan

Pork: 100,000 tons were imported in September, with a value of 1.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 1.4%; the cumulative import volume from January to September reached 800,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 37.3%, and a value of 11.14 billion yuan

Poultry: 28,000 tons were imported in September, with a value of 550 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 36.5%; the cumulative import volume from January to September was 301,000 tons, a year-on-year decrease of 46.0%, and a value of 6.11 billion yuan
